For its 6th edition, Rencontres is proud to be integrating a new component devoted to the photographic book into its entire programming. The Photographic Book will also be the subject of an exhibit of the same name, for which art historian and critic Serge Allaire will serve as curator. That exhibit will be officially inaugurated on August 21, at 4.30 p.m., at the launch of the Photographer Tour at the Quai des arts in Carleton-sur-Mer, and it will be held until the end of September. It will consist of two components: the first will be devoted to the photographers taking part in this 6th edition, and the second to photographic books by Québec and Canadian artists who participated in earlier editions.
The importance of the photographic book is already well established in major international fairs in Europe and the United States. Indeed, for more than 10 years now, a number of international publications and events have stressed its importance as both a form of expression and as creation in its own right in photographic practice. For its 6th edition, Rencontres is happy to share that viewpoint with a view to ensuring visibility for the photographic book and to awakening the interest of the general public as well as that of collectors in the value of the book as a form of expression and as a collectible item.
