Mélissa Pilon in France

Mélissa Pilon’s exhibition Crowds will be presented at the 17th edition of Photaumnales, in the Hauts-de-France region, from September 19, 2020, to January 3, 2021.

Drawing on extensive archival materials ‒ journals, books, newspapers and magazines ‒ the artist has collected, over the last few years, photographs of crowds that have then been fragmented and assembled in diptychs.

Crowds was also presented at Forillon National Park (in the Gaspé) in 2019 on the occasion of the 10th Rencontres.

The selection of Québec works will be made by curator Serge Allaire, and that of French books by Les PUI. The exhibition, which will bring together some 50 French and Québec works, will be presented in Nantes, France, from February 11 to 14, 2021. Les ateliers Bonus in Nantes will also offer activities involving the photobook from February 11 to 14, 2021, with two Québec artists and Rencontres management in attendance.

An exhibit and get-togethers on the subject of the photographic book in the presence of French artists are also anticipated for Montreal over the winter. Locations and dates have yet to be confirmed.
