In Praise of Simplicity

Amélie Chassary, Paris, France | ameliechassary.com

“Nature is an infinite source of inspiration imbued with an eternal poetry. Following in its footsteps, my photographic approach is both documentary and artistic and reflects a romantic interpretation of the relationship of nature to art. Filled with wonder by the wealth that nature offers us in its biodiversity, in this series I choose to praise fruit. The very essence of these photographs is in observing and unveiling with simplicity the elegance of that fruit. It’s a personal vision, understated in the depiction of the colors, the lines and the lights influenced by my academic studies. In my still lifes, some simple objects from everyday living catch the attention; I position the fruit in the leading role of my compositions. I seek a perfect harmony in the treatment of space and lights to create confusion in the image between photography and painting.” ‒ Amélie Chassary

In Praise of Simplicity

Amélie Chassary was born in Corrèze, France, in 1980. She lives and works in Paris and in Burgundy. A graduate in 2005 of the Penninghen art school in Paris, in her approach to photography she demonstrates the importance of her academic studies. In all her work she shows a representation of nature. It is in face of it and with it that she finds her inspirations. She seeks to create confusion in the image between photography, painting and design. Photography for her is a form of resistance: “taking myself away for a few brief moments from the share of the superfluous in our society by heading off to look for wonder in what is true, beautiful.”

Amélie Chassary’s exhibition is presented in collaboration with Diaphane, pôle photographique en Hauts-de-France as part of the Fonds franco-québécois pour la coopération décentralisée.
