Yann Pocreau, Montreal, Québec | yannpocreau.com

Born in Québec City in 1980, Yann Pocreau lives and works in Montreal. Through photography, he has grown interested in the strong presence of place and subject, in their intimate cohabitation.

In his recent research he’s studied light as a living subject and the effect it has on the narrative of the images or of the places where his installations are presented. His work has been part of a number of Canadian, American and European exhibitions. Various magazines have taken note of his photographs, and they can be found in the collections of the National Bank of Canada, Hydro-Québec, the City of Montreal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Musée d’art de Joliette, as well as in the Prêt d’œuvres d’art (rental) collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. He was, until 2014, general coordinator of the Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK (an artist-run center for producing and presenting art), and has been, since 2013, president of the Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (Artist-Managed Centers Group of Québec). He is represented by Galerie Simon Blais in Montréal.

MARKING THE NIGHT

“My idea is to occupy the Carleton lighthouse. A festive occupation of the seaside monument, a signal more human than territorial. This is a nighttime project, merging lighthouse and Bengal lights. My plan is to set up a mirror ball and several colored projectors to energize the night sky and liven up the coast, its landmarks, its territory.”
