THE COLLECTION

The photobook collection belonging to Rencontres and the town of Carleton-sur-mer brings together over 140 works by Québec-based and international photographers. Initiated in 2015, it made it possible to present this content to the public at the summer exhibition “The Photographic Book” curated by Serge Allaire, and to donate it to Bibliothèque Gabrielle-Bernard-Dubé in Carleton-sur-mer.

In offering visibility to the photobook, Rencontres is seeking to awaken the awareness of the general public and of collectors to its value and as well as to its interest as a form of expression and as a collectible item.

Josée Schryer and Jean-François Hamelin

Co-founders of the Photobook Club de Montréal, whose aim is to bring together artists and photography enthusiasts to carry on discussion around this method of dissemination, and to promote the photobook as an art object.

Serge Allaire

Curator of the Photographic Book exhibition in 2015, 2016 and 2017 as part of Rencontres.
