Designers in residence this summer

LÉA CADIEUX-M. +  JACOB ÉTHIER

AUGUST 24  > SEPTEMBER 14, 2018

Further to the call for projects launched last March to participate in a laboratory residency in design, Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie is happy to announce that it will be hosting the duo of young Montreal designers Léa Cadieux-M. and Jacob Éthier from August 24 to September 14, 2018, in Carleton-sur-Mer. This laboratory residency will allow them to design a mobile exhibition pavilion that will be inaugurated for the 10th anniversary of Rencontres, in summer 2019.

The first-time project reflects the inclination of Rencontres to rethink the integration of photographic and video works into the Gaspesian landscape. The prototype for the mobile exhibition pavilion will contribute to the dissemination of projects by photo and video artists, to artistic accessibility, and to the encounter between work and audience thanks to design.

Léa Cadieux-M.

When Léa Cadieux-M. isn’t thinking about the third landscape or about plans for an exhibition at the UQAM design centre, she is kept busy as project manager for the magazine Échelles (Grafika award for best student project in 2018). She collaborated in the first Third Landscape interpretation centre that took root at the green space Le Champ des Possibles in Montreal during the summer of 2017. She is currently studying part-time for a diploma in event design.

Jacob Éthier

After a bachelor’s in environmental design, Jacob Éthier is currently doing a research/creation master’s thesis around the connection between photography and architecture. In Montreal he collaborates with the Verdun-based CatherineCatherine workshop and holds a student position in the consulting section for the Québec Housing Corporation. He has also carried out a number of study tours on the northern environment in Nunavik.

EXHIBITION PAVILION

New technologies | Renewal of photography | Durability of exhibition apparatuses | Collaboration with the community | Reflection on identity and the region | Open-air exhibits

In its concern for placing greater emphasis on design and the exhibition potential of pictures mobilizing diverse technologies, Rencontres is opting to equip itself with a prototype of a mobile exhibition pavilion. This first-time apparatus will contribute to the dissemination of projects by photo and video artists, to artistic accessibility, and to the encounter between work and audience thanks to design.

The 2018 residency in design program is conducted with the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec / Programme de partenariat territorial Gaspésie, and the City of Carleton-sur-Mer.
